The course will be offered over a period of two years or six terms, with two Mandatory Units and two Optional Units. It offers students training to become a qualified counsellor practitioner and will give qualified students the ability to counsel clients in a variety of controlled, supervised environments.
Additionally, learners will advance significantly in their quest to become qualified counsellors with the BACP or other Lead Bodies.
Although the course is aimed primarily at learners who want to work towards achieving counsellor practitioner status, it will also prove useful to those with existing counselling training who regularly use counselling skills in other roles.
This qualification will provide an opportunity to deepen theoretical knowledge of one of the core theories – This course is humanistic in orientation, with a core approach being Person-Centred and additional elements of Psychodynamic and CBT
It will enable learners to embark on practice and to gain understanding of the necessity of working within an ethical framework. Legal requirements will also be examined. Learners are expected to secure an appropriate placement with support from the tutors; make appropriate use of counselling supervision and to evaluate their practice; provide evidence of a minimum of 15 sessions of personal counselling in the first year of training. The placement requirement in this qualification is essential to the personal and professional development of the practitioner and learners are required to join BACP as a student member before beginning their placement. Learners will be required to provide evidence of 100 hours of client work supported by 2 supervisor reports over the two years. All course and assessment requirements must be met within the lifetime of this course.
This is an application-only course, and before a spot is provided, all students—new and internal— must demonstrate readiness to continue. In order to prove their appropriateness and give documentation of prior training, prospective students who have studied with another provider or who have taken a hiatus from their studies must get in touch with the Support@coreacademy.org.uk before enrolling.
